Dear Friend,
Hi. My name is Ted Lacy and I've been there. I've been caught in a piece of equipment. 40 feet from the kill switch, I KNOW what's going through a person's mind. Believe me, it's a feeling I'll never forget - the whirring of the engine as it gets nearer and nearer, and the utter helplessness you feel as you are drawn relentlessly towards the pulley and belt waiting for you at the end.

I did not get hurt that day, not even a scratch. But you wouldn't believe what my coat looked like. 'Ruined' does not even begin to describe it.

There are nights when I still wake up, drenched in sweat, the sound of that machine droning in my ears. A minute more and I would have been ripped to shreds! It's mighty scary and can put the fear of a lifetime in you - the kind of fear you won't forget too soon.

But the sad thing is: I KNOW THIS KIND OF ACCIDENT IS STILL HAPPENING EVERY DAY! People just never get around to doing anything about it!

Imagine what a shame it would be to lose life or limb to
nothing but sheer laziness and carelessness.

You know what I learnt that day - a ruined coat is a lot cheaper to replace than trying to attach a limb, pay the doctor, settle hospital bills or even pay for a funeral!

There's one more thing I understood. I learnt that if it could happen to me, it could happen to anyone - anyone in the family or neighborhood!

Many people know a lot about machinery safety, but they just don't take the effort to make it happen. Heck, I was working for 36 years around farm machinery before I thought about what I could DO to ensure remote engine motor shut off - and that was because of the accident.

Ever since the accident, I have a real passion to help people avoid that kind of horrific equipment accident. This one was prevented. Many people have not been as fortunate.
